Spiricles is a newly emerging but vastly experienced Northwest-based alternative rock band, an offshoot of longtime Portland band the Unknown Soldiers.

Spiricles began as a collaboration between guitarists Al Paschke and Sylvia Hackathorn. This core duo produced the band’s self-titled CD and later fleshed out the sound to include the current line-up of musicians.

Paschke’s songs are hard-edged but poetic, carefully honed and passionately played. His aggressive guitar playing is complemented by Hackathorn’s melodic lead and enhanced by her multi-instrumental capabilities.

They are joined by rhythm guitarist Beth Harrington, who along with Paschke is an additional featured singer. A Bostonian by birth, Harrington has been a member of Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers, Rick Berlin’s Awful Truth and has sung backup for the Greg Kihn Band and Willie Alexander’s Boom Boom Band among others.

Clayton Silva on drums and Arthur Beardsley on bass are the band’s fierce rhythm section. Both have been contributors to a roster of local and California-based punk, rock and power pop bands.

Beardsley led the band Pink TV, and played in Rancho Notorious, Bonnie Bentley and the New Creatures, and the Hunger, to name a few. Silva plays with Clorox Girls and Sewers of Paris.

Shannon Zilka adds a lyric touch to the band, playing violin and keyboards, expanding on her work with local Celtic and American Old Time bands Shotgun Wedding and Worn Out Shoes.
